Autumn activities at nursery in Rugby

It was lovely to welcome parents and carers into our Garden of Discovery on Thursday for our Autumnal Stay-and-Play morning.

We had organised a range of seasonal activities for families to enjoy together, including nature weaving, pumpkin exploration and exploring natural materials. We wanted our parents to see what we’d been up to this month – harvesting some of our produce and making scarecrows out of straw!

Autumn gives us plenty to work with in the garden, and these simple activities are a great way for children to experiment with different colours, shapes and textures. They also encourage conversation and creativity.

Sharing nursery life with families

Our Stay-and-Play sessions give parents and carers the opportunity to spend time with their children in the nursery environment and see some of the activities they enjoy during a typical day.

For the children, it’s a chance to show their families around, share what they’ve been doing and enjoy having them join in. For parents, it’s an opportunity to see how we support children’s learning through play and perhaps pick up a few ideas to try at home.

It’s also a good opportunity for families to get to know our team and one another in a relaxed setting.

Making the most of our garden

Outdoor learning is a big part of life at Blue Windmill, and we use our Garden of Discovery throughout the year, not just in the warmer months.

Each season brings different opportunities. In autumn, we can make use of fallen leaves, seeds and other natural materials for creative activities, sensory exploration and investigating the world around us.

We believe children benefit from having plenty of time outdoors, with space to move, explore and follow their interests. Our garden has been developed with this in mind, offering different areas for active play, quieter activities and discovery.

You can read more about our approach to outdoor movement and wellbeing.

Thank you for joining us

Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to our Autumnal Stay-and-Play. We really value these opportunities to bring families into nursery and share what the children get up to.

We look forward to welcoming you to more events throughout the year!
