Rugby in Bloom Platinum Award 2026
We’re delighted that Blue Windmill Nursery was able to celebrate our Platinum Award in this year’s Rugby in Bloom competition at a ceremony this morning.
Our resident gardener, Barbara Spiby, represented the nursery along with nursery owner, Sharon Peach. They attended the Rugby in Bloom awards ceremony at The Benn Hall, where Barbara was presented with a trophy by the Mayor of Rugby, along with a certificate and a voucher for more plants.
It was a lovely occasion and a chance to celebrate the work going on in gardens across Rugby. We particularly enjoyed seeing what other nurseries and schools have been doing, sharing ideas and recognising the effort that goes into creating outdoor spaces for children to enjoy.

Our Garden of Discovery
At Blue Windmill, our garden is a big part of nursery life. It’s somewhere children can explore, investigate, grow things, get muddy and discover something new every day.
From our vegetable patch and mud kitchen to our reading pods, building yard and wildlife areas, each part of the Garden of Discovery offers different opportunities for play and learning.
Barbara has been working with the children and staff to develop the garden, helping everyone get involved in planting, growing and looking after our outdoor spaces. The children are learning where food comes from, how plants grow and why it’s important to care for the natural world around us.

A Team Effort
We’re particularly pleased that Barbara was able to collect the award on behalf of the nursery. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and hard work are helping us make the most of our garden, and it’s wonderful to see that recognised.
Of course, the garden belongs to everyone at Blue Windmill. Our children and practitioners all play a part in making it such a well-used and much-loved space.
Winning Platinum is a fantastic achievement, but we’re certainly not finished! There are always more things we’d like to grow, new ideas to try and improvements to make. And thanks to our prize voucher, we’ll soon have a few more plants to find homes for.
A big thank you to Rugby in Bloom for organising the competition and today’s celebration, and congratulations to all the other schools, nurseries and community groups who took part.
