Pre-School, Blue Windmill Nursery
The Pre-School Room is dedicated to children over three who are preparing for entry to school.
In this room our specialist and highly trained staff follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework to provide a wealth of exciting and developmental activities. Children learn to use a computer, are encouraged to read and count, draw and model, role-play and tell stories. Most of all, the children have fun.
The different areas within this room are planned to allow the children to gain valuable learning experiences as they move between them. Children's natural curiosity is stimulated and encouraged to allow them to become engaged with their environment and really enjoy the learning process.
Continually encouraged to move towards independence, the children are able to serve their own drinks and snacks, register themselves each session and make important choices about their learning experiences and their environment. Whilst the staff plan a wide range of activities, the children are enabled to express their wishes and change these activities in accordance with their individual or collective interests. Staff at Blue Windmill acknowledge the importance of children feeling contented, and the influence this has on a child's ability to make the most of the opportunities on offer.
The children spend time in the outdoor areas every session. We enjoy the various weather conditions and take opportunities to dig and tend for plants and seedlings. An early interest in the environment can create many exciting learning opportunities - finding out about nature, life cycles and simply enjoying the outside world.
This room is also air-conditioned, providing a comfortable environment for both children and staff.
The nursery has developed a shared reading scheme, in connection with the Mobile Library Service, for the preschool children, who have opportunities to select books to take home and share with parents and siblings.
